Billa 2007 – Trisha and Shreya vie for honors

Looks like there is stiff competition between the lead ladies of Tamil cinema to be cast in the remake of old Rajini hit Billa, which is titled Billa 2007. The late 80s hit which starred Rajini, Praveena, and Sripriya will be remade with Ajith in the lead. Though Nayanthara has been finalized for the role done by Praveena, the other role is yet to be taken.

News has it that Trisha and Shreya are eyeing the hot spot and are in constant contact with the crew. Shreya stands a better chance this time since Trisha has already been roped in for Ajith’s next Kreedom. However, Shreya’s market has skyrocketed ever since she starred in Sivaji and her paycheck is scraping the borders of Rs. 40 lakhs. Sources state that Shreya could lose the opportunity if she shows no interest in slashing her paycheck. The other contenders for the role are Thamiraparani Banu and Reema Sen.

Billa’s shoots will commence from February. The movie is produced by Ananda Suresh and directed by Vishnu Vardhan.

Ajith keeps a low profile

Ajith, who delivered a hit after many debacles, maintains a stoic silence. He chooses to stay away from the media and does not turn up for public functions too. The actor, who was chosen as the favourite hero by a popular satellite channel recently, chose not to turn up for the event and receive his award.

Once bitten twice shy is Ajith. He was frank and outspoken until a couple of years ago and was very much accessible to the media. However, the actor soon realized the significance of silence.

Ajith's Aalwar is ready to hit screens this Pongal, while Kireedom is on the floors. He replaces Rajinikanth in the remake version of yesteryear blockbuster Billa.

Why was Rajkiran chosen for Ajith's Kreedom?

In the film Kreedom, Ajith’s father wants him to become a police officer but much to his disappointment Ajith goes on to become gangster and carves a niche for himself. The role of Ajith’s father is a very powerful and a pivotal one and the director expected someone with a strong acting caliber to suit the bill. When the name of Rajkiran was suggested, it was accepted by one and all.

Rajkiran was approached and he agreed to don this role as he realized that it had immense potential to quench his acting thirst. According to Kollywood sources, Rajkiran is emerging to be a very good supportive and character artiste in Tamil films.

Scoop on Ajith’s Billa 2007

One of the grandest remakes of all times, Billa 2007 – which will have Ajith recreating the role of Rajini – will be kick started during 2007. Ajith is currently busy with Alwar giving the movie its final touch before its release. Billa 2007 is in the queue and will, however, only commence after Ajith’s Kreedom is finished.

The flick will be produced by Suresh Balaji and news is now out that Vishnuvardhan will direct Billa 2007.

Vishnuvardhan already has Pattiyal and Arindum Ariyamalum to his credit and is known to be a sensible director, which his movies proved in turn.

Billa 2007 is slated for 2007 release, which would be the 20th year of the original Billa’s release. Veteran producer Balaji produced the original movie and alongside Rajini, the movie starred Sripriya, Manorama, and Bollywood bombshell Helen. On the other hand, Billa 2007’s cast apart from Ajith is yet to be finalized.
