Varalaru flies; Vallavan escapes - Diwali Releases and Censor Status

In the Diwali race of films, Varalaru is the first film to emerge with ‘U/A’ certificate after completing the necessary formalities at the Censor Board. Prints were flown to overseas areas yesterday. As we had reported earlier, the Simbu starrer Vallavan is caught in remuneration issues involving him. A visibly upset producer Thenappan has lodged a complaint against the Madurai based financier Anbu and Simbu’s dad Vijaya. T. Rajendar. But according to some media sources, as a sudden twist in the tale, mighty producer Oscar Ravichandran had allegedly stepped in and resolved the issue.

Interestingly Oscar Ravichandran is the distributor of Vallavan in the City and NSC territory, which contributes a big share of almost 70 to 80 theatres.

As Regional censor board is viewing the Diwali films continuously, eager producers and directors are in tenterhooks to get a clean U certificate for their films. Since family audiences will be the deciding factors on the success of any film, especially during festive seasons such as Diwali the producers are praying for U certificate; if not at least U/A.

As regards the other films, the movie that suffered a lot by way of cuts is the Sarathkumar starrer Thalaimagan. Scissors seemed to have worked over time in this film due to its political satires. According to the latest reports, Jeeva-Nayantara starrer ‘E’ has managed to get a ‘U’ certificate. Of the lot, Vaathiyar seemed to have emerged unscathed. We would keep the readers updated about other films. Watch this space for further developments.
